Hong Kong Madame - Match your friends … and be successful at it!
Who’s never tried to matchmake two single friends? You? Liar! Let’s face it, we are all the same .. all like “hey X, oh your still single, oh great let me introduce you Y. Hey Y, X is single just like you, why don’t you guys go out for dinner together?” Weird, right? No wonder you haven’t been a successful matchmaker so far! But things are about to change! Thanks to Violet Lim, CEO of Lunch Actually, and her proven matchmaking rules, you can become Chief Cupid in a day.

Why lunch? “Lunch dating is short, sweet and simple. It’s long enough to get to know someone, but not too long that it gets awkward.” says Violet. And if you ask me, I can always tell if things are going to work out or not based on my date's order. let me warn you guys, salad is not winner here. I am looking for a foodie!
Ok, shall we start this masterclass? Here are the 6 golden rules of matchmaking:
- You are not God (you wish!)
Come on girls, no match is made in heaven! No match is the perfect one, but if you can find friends that are 60% compatible at least (especially in terms of values), then who knows … Oh and remember, even the most experienced matchmakers fail sometimes, just try again!
- Enhance your matchmaking intuition
- Learn what they need, not what they want
A person is not a dish, you cannot always expect a perfectly cooked up partner! Tall, blue eyes, close-shaved… Don’t be a waiter (by providing what your friend ordered), be a nutritionist instead and find what they need.
- Give tough love
We've all had that friend with unrealistic expectations. You know what girls? Be firm! Tough love is hard but essential to your friendship. Love is not a matter of height, education level or hair lenght …
- Be understanding of underlying challenges and struggles
If you wanna be a good matchmaker, you need to find out why your friend is still single. Enough of the " haven’t fond the right person yet" speech it’s your job to dig out the reasons. Low self-esteem, traumatic past love story … Get to know your friend’s fears
and how to overcome them!
- Above all, be non-judgmental
Do not jump to conclusions based on your first impressions. Speaking from experience, if you knew what I thought of my boyfriend .. let's just say it was not love at first time!
And there you go! Congratulations you are ready to successfully match your friends! Feels like we are going to see a lot of new couples pop-up in the coming months! Oh and of courses, these matchmaking golden rules work if you are single too so make a good use of them!
