Why Travelling with Your Partner Helps You Learn About Each Other

Planning a trip with your partner is exciting! You plan to the last detail from romantic dining to street shopping. It gives you a feeling of wanting to own the world with your partner, one town at a time.

It also sets a huge milestone in your relationship. It’s a world of difference in comparison to dates. During dates, you literally take time to present the best of you from your mood to your shoes. Travelling with your partner however, it takes away the space for you hide parts of yourself that might be a little…...much? So, here are the reasons why is it healthy to travel with your partner.

1 - The Yayss and Ummmm

You’re on your first date and you’re head over heels on how much in common you both have. You love jungle trekking? Me too! Camping? LOVE IT! Backpacking? Let’s go NOW.

Then finally comes the first vacation and you actually have to get your butt up for some physical activities (not the indoor ones) instead of lazing on that cozy, warm, soft hotel bed.

It’s not technically lying, really. Of course you would want to have common interests with someone you like, in hopes they would like you too. And over time you try to convince yourself by saying “I can learn to like it along the way.”

Here’s what you can do instead, TALK. Opposites DO attract for the most part. When you have different interests, it gives the both of you a chance to try new things that you usually wouldn’t. Isn't that one of the best part of being in a relationship?

2. Problem Solving Skills

Problems and romance go hand in hand. I mean think about it, every romantic comedy movie wouldn’t have had the opportunity for a grand gesture without a little (or not so little) conflict along the way.

I know we shouldn’t really compare our lives to a movie but minus standing in the rain or stopping a plane to confess one’s love, movies can be relatable. Besides, when you face problems in your relationship, whether it’s financial or family related, you would want someone you can rely on. So what better way to know how your partner functions under pressure than to travel. From losing your luggage to problematic hotel bookings, plus jetlag...the question isn’t who wouldn’t lose their lid a little?? The question is, how do they handle it….(keep reading)

3. Handling The Problem When Travelling With Your Partner

There is NO relationship without disagreements. It’s healthy because bottling up everything inside just means it will explode on another day. Disagreement isn’t the problem here, what matters is how the both of you deal with it as a couple AND as an individual.

Imagine you’re both out exploring the city and you’re ready to call it a day so you can have a fresh start tomorrow...BUT your partner is in the mood for an all-night raging party. Let’s just cut the chase, if they ditch you, LEAVE (literally). The whole point of having a healthy relationship is being able to compromise and treat each other with respect. If you can’t find that, then you should save both your time and do what’s best for the both of you.

Sure, travelling isn’t the only way to learn how your partner deal with problems but it is definitely a quicker way to see many sides of a person.

4. Deciding if He/She is in it for The Long Haul

Moving in together is a milestone you cross after quite some time being together. Traveling with you partner helps you with a trial run on how would it be living together and doing the smallest thing like keeping the sink dry to the big deal breakers that you have in your list.

A person’s character is built up from their habits and traveling helps a couple know each other’s. It doesn’t mean if you don’t have the same habit there’s no future for the both of you, that’s where your compatibility in solving a disagreement comes in the picture.

Either way, exploring new places with your partner would definitely be interesting. If it turns out good, it would bring you so much closer, otherwise…...it would be a great story to tell your grandkids someday. So what are you waiting for? Time to find out which path are you on! Pack a bag kiddos!
